STUDIO POLICIES

LESSON TIME

Once a lesson time has been arranged, the student is responsible to attend lessons on a weekly basis and arrive at the scheduled time. Changing the scheduled lesson time is subject to availability. If the student is late to the lesson, Hannah is not obligated to teach the student beyond the scheduled lesson time.

Due to Hannah’s schedule, correspondence with the parent and/or student following the lesson may be limited. Please reach out via email or phone if there is a question or concern following the lesson.

MISSED LESSONS

Students are responsible to attend all lessons within the month unless the date is listed in the “Holidays/Vacation Time” section of the studio calendar. If a student misses a lesson, the student is eligible for a makeup if 24 hours advance notice is given. Cancellations made on the lesson day may be made up at the instructor’s discretion.

Makeup lessons are subject to availability and must be used within the month of the cancellation. It is the responsibility of the parent/student to initiate the scheduling of these makeups, and the lesson will be forfeited if no makeup time can be arranged or if the student cancels the makeup.

Please note: Any lesson (scheduled during the tuition period) that is cancelled by the instructor will be made up. If no makeup time can be arranged, students will be issued a credit on the following month’s bill.

HOLIDAYS / VACATION TIME

No lessons will be held on the following dates:

  • Jan. 1, 2023 - New Year’s Day

  • February 23-24, 2022 - Vacation Time

PRACTICE EQUIPMENT

In order for the student to progress in their piano study, they must have an 88-key piano to use for daily practice. If the student is a beginner, digital pianos and/or keyboards are adequate. The piano, however, must be touch sensitive, have weighted keys, a sustain pedal and a bench. Please note that students using keyboards will eventually need to upgrade to an acoustic piano so they can apply the musical dynamics and techniques learned at the lesson.

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS

Students are responsible to read their assignment book daily, practice the full assignments given by me, and bring all their books and materials to their lesson.

The following practice times are recommended:

  • Beginners - 15 to 30 minutes at least 5 days/wk

  • Intermediate - 30 to 45 minutes at least 5 days/wk

  • Advanced - at least 60 minutes at least 5 days/wk

In general, practice sessions should be more focused on achieving the specific goals in the assignment than it should be on the number of minutes spent practicing. Practice is not meant to sound “good” in the beginning since the student should be focusing on improving the things they do poorly, rather than the things they do well. Practice should happen at a time and place that is most free of distractions.

GROOMING & STUDIO USE

For a good hand position on the piano, please keep fingernails short. Keep hands clean and germ-free out of respect for the other students using the piano, and please do not bring food or beverages into the studio.

DISCONTINUING LESSONS

Parents/students reserve the right to discontinue lessons at any time, upon advance notice to the instructor. No refunds will be given for unused lessons.

The instructor may terminate lessons due to any of the following reasons:

  • Consistently arriving unprepared to the lessons

  • Consistent disrespectful behavior during the lesson

  • Consistent lack of communication from the student or parent

  • Consistent late payment

Please note that Hannah’s mission for students is to help them excel as a musician and meet their musical goals. It is important to discuss any goals you have upfront so Hannah can adjust her teaching methods accordingly; however, if you feel as though your musical goals are not being met, please reach out to Hannah to discuss this more so any necessary adjustments can be made.
